Create a Cutout Effect Using Video
"today we’re going to talk about a super cool way to use a video background on your Wix website. We’re going to create an impressive cutout effect using a transparent photo. It will look like this! Pretty sweet, right? Even though it may not look like it, it’s quick and easy to do. Let’s get to it. First, find a
free photo editor online. We’re going to use pixlr. Create a new image, sized however you want. Could be 800 by 800 pixels, 1150 by 925 pixels, whatever floats your boat. Press OK to start. Take a look at the “Layers” panel on the right side of the screen. Click the lock icon to unlock the background. Create a new layer by clicking the icon that looks like a page. Once that layer has appeared in the panel, move it below the background layer. Choose the selection tool, right here. Want a rectangular cutout? Or a circular one? Select it here. Of course, if you're familiar with photoshop, you can cut out words or other shapes. Create a shape with this tool, and press delete. This will remove the portion of the white layer that you’ve selected, creating a cutout. Maybe put three circles artfully together like this. Or two squares next to each other. Play around with it – have some fun! Once you’ve got a design you’re happy with, save the file as a PNG on your computer. In order to demonstrate how this will appear on your Wix website, we’re going to go in and choose a new template to edit. I’ve decided to use this one. [“indie folk” template] Select the header and change the color to white. You’ll do this so you will still be able to see the header after adding a video background. Head over to the Background menu, and scroll through Wix’s selection of video backgrounds. Choose the one you like the best. Now go to the Add Menu, and add a white strip. Upload the image you made earlier in this lesson and put it on the white strip you’ve just placed. Click on image settings. Where it says “Color behind image,” set it to zero. Save and preview!
